Most of us have a strip light or two in our homes or place of work. These handy little gadgets consume less power than the more traditional tungsten bulbs and this is why we use them so much. Inside this kind of contraption is light ballast or fluorescent ballast which preheats or pre charges the ignition process which in turn ignites the gas in the tube fittings. All a bit technical for those who are not in the know for sure, but since they can be replaced when they break down, it may be handy to get to learn about them here.When looking to replace this small gadget in the lamp, the first thing that should be done is the whole fitting disconnected from the power supply.

The piece can be removed from the lamp fitting by simply unscrewing the screws holding it in. If there is a leak here it should be obvious at this stage so some further inspection may be done. The replacement part can be easily purchased from hardware stores or online suppliers. The good thing about online stores is that they normally carry a lot more variety than the high street. If one outlet does not have the correct one, it is merely a case of finding another online store to see what they have there.

This is a very simple process for sure, but these days there are a lot of cheap lamps on the market. Some are so cheap in fact that they can sometimes be the same price as the cost of a new gadget. Many new fittings though come in from China and are not really as reliable as some other brands, so one has to figure out if it is cheaper to buy a whole new lamp fitting, or go for the replacement gadget as mentioned above.

Of course, those of us who are into conservation will really want to replace the piece rather than dump the whole lamp fitting so care should be taken when buying the fitting in the first place. Cheap is not always as cheap as one would suspect once the parts start breaking garden lighting down. Also, imported electrical fittings from outside the states may not be as safe as we are used to. It is obvious then that strip-lights, and any fittings like them, save a lot of money when it comes to power consumption.

This in turn saves us using energy that we really do not need to so the world should suffer less at our hands. It may be better than to go for a more solid fitting which can withstand having these spare parts changed now and then, when they wear out, rather than go for throw away fittings which only add to pollution eventually.Check out several sites online before opting to buy anything since this is the best way to figure out which are the good guys, and which ones are selling goods which look too good to be true. By comparing sites, one should be able to gauge what the average cost should be, and then we can make an informed decision from there.
